Chicagoland Latino Community on track to lead in COVID-19 Deaths

Apr 14, 2020

CHICAGO - April 14, 2020 - PRLog -- Recent data analysis by Computer Forensics & Electronic Medical Records expert Lee Neubecker of Enigma Forensics shows some troubling trends in COVID-19 distribution amongst the greater Chicagoland area. The New York City Latino Community numbers at 29 percent of the population but as of a week ago, they accounted for 34 percent of deaths related to COVID-19. Similarly, Chicagoland Latinos are on a fast clip to experience similar devastation from the outbreak.

Analysis of the top fastest growth Zip Codes that all have experienced an average Coronavirus confirmed positive growth rate at or in excess of 9% led us to cross reference the population. Of those fastest growing 10 Zip Codes from 4/11/20 to 4/13/20, the combined population is 56% majority Hispanic. This finding doesn't negate that the black community is being devastated by this pandemic in greater numbers at present in Chicago, but does suggest transmission rates may be greater within the Hispanic community at present.

Specific outreach to the black community has shown positive outcomes in reducing COVID-19 risk in those communities, and this should be replicated elsewhere. These communities with rapidly growing Coronavirus cases need to take immediate steps to ensure workers are being provided appropriate training, protective equipment and rapid testing. Many businesses in economically struggling communities are failing to protect their workers and customers and this needs to change promptly.

"Mayor Lori Lightfoot has shown great creativity in using social media and humor to educate Chicago at large about the gravity of the virus.  That same creative but honest approach targeting the Latino communities might help get the word out and slow the spread rate of the virus in these hot spot areas," said Lee Neubecker.

The CDC should be releasing demographic information by zip code to help local governments best allocate the resources needed for communities being disproportionately impacted by this outbreak. The full blog post and data are available here:

PH pharma firm marks 80 years with new health, wellness offerings

Pascual Laboratories, Inc. is marking its 80th year in the Philippines with new health and wellness offerings and campaigns for several of its established brands. Founded in 1946 by Isosceles and Leonora Pascual, the company began by addressing what it described as the post-war health needs of fellow Filipinos. Eight decades later, it continues to expand its portfolio while commemorating the milestone under the theme “#GalingThatKeepsGoing.” Among the new offerings introduced this year are Alevia-B, which marks the company’s entry into the mobility market, and MyColla C, a food supplement combining marine collagen and vitamin C. Alevia-B combines paracetamol with vitamins B1 (thiamine), B6 (pyridoxine) and B12 (cyanocobalamin) in a single tablet. According to the company, the formulation is intended to help relieve mild to moderate muscle, joint or nerve-related pain while supporting normal nerve function. Paracetamol is a widely used first-line non-opioid analgesic for mild to moderate pain. Vitamins B1, B6 and B12 are essential for normal nervous system function and contribute to neuronal metabolism and myelin maintenance. The company said the formulation brings together an analgesic component with neurotropic vitamins, offering a complementary approach to addressing different components of pain. The other new product, MyColla C, combines premium hydrolyzed marine collagen with vitamin C. The company said the collagen provides building blocks that help support skin health, including elasticity, hydration and firmness, while vitamin C is essential in producing and maintaining collagen. The combination supports normal collagen formation and structure when paired with proper diet and exercise. MyColla C is available in three formats: Strawberry Milk powdered drink sachets, unflavored sachets that can be mixed with drinks and chewable tablets. The anniversary year also includes new campaigns for several of the company’s flagship brands. Poten-Cee Vitamin C launched its “#CeeGe Lang” campaign, while Ascof Forte introduced a campaign focused on natural cough relief for various coughs not caused by bacterial infection. C-Lium Fibre unveiled its “#PowerTheSlay” campaign earlier this year, focusing on irregular bowel movement. Poten-Cee + C also highlights the combination of bovine and marine collagen through its “#MyGlowToChoice” campaign. As part of its 80th-anniversary activities, PascualLab also offered customers P80 Mercury Drug gift certificates for every accumulated purchase of P400 worth of PascualLab products. The company said more offerings are in the pipeline as it continues its anniversary year. From its beginnings in 1946, PascualLab has expanded its health and wellness portfolio to include products such as OraCare Mouthrinse, PelarGo and Glutaphos. Its 80th anniversary looks back on that history while emphasizing the company’s continuing efforts to address the health needs of Filipinos.
